Since 2015 or thereabouts, obtaining Phlebotomy certification has become a popular career goal for many young Guyanese, especially females. Local certification that is accredited by the National Accreditation Council and international certification from American Medical Technologists (AMT) are the main certification routes. Computer World Medical Institute and Qualitest Institute are the main providers of courses leading to such certification.

Most phlebotomy programs can be completed within 6 to 12 months and cost between US$ 700 to $US 1,000 for tuition and examination fees.
